Nov. 29, 2016 – Target Corporation has announced plans to open a store in October 2017 as part of the Elevate Oak Park project. The 22,000-square-foot, flexible-format store will be part of the discount retailer’s growing number of smaller locations customized for urban and densely populated suburban areas, as well as college campuses. April 4, 2016 - Work has begun on the new Oak Park Station redevelopment project. The fence has been installed, the site graded and the building at 1133 Westgate Street demolished.

Environmental remediation began in late March on the south parcel near North Boulevard. This work entails removing and disposing of soil contaminated by petroleum byproducts remaining from past uses of the property. Such work is required on most major redevelopment sites in Oak Park, with original uses typically dating back to the early 20th century.

Caissons - the critical components of the foundation structure – are now being installed on the north parcel near Lake Street. This work should be completed by mid-April.

Excavation for foundations should begin in April as well, with operations beginning on the north parcel.

Traffic disruptions - The east bound lane of Lake Street will be closed to traffic for two weeks beginning April 25, but traffic flaggers will be on hand during construction hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. to ensure two-traffic. Steel plates will be used where necessary to keep Lake Street open to two-way traffic after 3 pm.

Westgate Street will be reduced to one lane for two weeks in May, but will have flaggers to guide traffic.

North Boulevard will be limited to westbound traffic for two weeks in May.

​Full-scale construction activities are set to begin by mid-December 2015, with substantial completion envisioned for Fall 2017.
