Snow Emergency Parking

Oak Park's snow emergency parking rules are not in effect. Please follow normal parking rules and regulations.

After a two or more inches of snow accumulates, the Emergency Snow Removal Parking Plan goes into effect and the following parking rules are enforced, seven days a week, including holidays:

Main streets designated as snow routes must be cleared of all parked cars. Violations are subject to a $100 fine.
Non-snow route streets allow parking between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. on the EVEN address side on EVEN days and ODD address side on ODD days.
Designated Commercial Parking areas follow the odd/even rule between midnight and 8 a.m. Signs are posted in these areas.

Snow parking restrictions do not apply to emergency vehicles, of course, and delivery vehicles are allowed to park up to 10 minutes.

The Snow Emergency Removal Parking Plan rules override all other daytime restrictions on residential streets outside commercial districts.

Snow routes

When two or more inches of snow accumulates, parking is prohibited on the following streets designated as snow routes:

Augusta Boulevard
Austin Boulevard
Chicago Avenue
Division Street
Garfield Street
Harlem Avenue
Harrison Street
Jackson Boulevard
Lake Street
Madison Street
North Avenue
Oak Park Avenue
Ontario Street from Harlem Avenue to Marion Street
Ridgeland Avenue
Roosevelt Road
Wisconsin Avenue from Madison Street to the emergency entrance of Oak Park Hospital

Snow Removal Strategy

When snow begins to fall, Village crews start salting streets, and when snow accumulates, they begin to plow. Main streets designated as snow routes are cleared first. Plow drivers then move on to secondary and arterial streets. Cul-de-sacs and dead end streets are plowed last. Alleys are plowed after five inches of snow, but may be plowed sooner if time permits.

Residents can also sign up to receive text, email or phone notifcations at www.oak-park.us/notifyme. For more information about the Emergency Snow Removal Parking Plan, call the Public Works Department at 708.358.5700 during regular working hours, 7:30 am - 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Violations

The purpose of the plan is to ensure access by emergency vehicles, improve traffic movement and allow snow removal equipment to operate quickly and efficiently. Vehicles parked in violation of the snow restrictions are subject to ticketing and towing. Parking on a snow route when conditions trigger the emergency rules carries a fine of $100.
