Aug. 22, 2023 – As residents plan their end-of-summer celebrations to mark the Labor Day weekend, the Oak Park Police Department is partnering with law enforcement agencies across the state to stop unbuckled and impaired driving.
“Our first priority is to keep people safe, so we’re asking everyone to plan ahead for a sober ride home if they’ll be drinking or using another impairing substance,” said Police Chief Shatonya Johnson. “Let’s make this a partnership between law enforcement and motorists: Help us protect the community and put an end to the dangers of impaired driving.”
The high-visibility “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign runs now through the early-morning hours of Sept. 5. In addition to looking for drunk drivers, the police will be stepping up seat belt and child safety seat enforcement. Speeders and distracted drivers should also be aware.
This Labor Day weekend remember to designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family drive drunk or impaired by drugs. Even a small amount of alcohol or other drug can impair judgment and reaction times, making driving unsafe.
The Oak Park Police Department is partnering with the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement across Illinois for the increased statewide effort.
