This Labor Day, drive safe and sober or get pulled over

Aug. 26, 2021 – As the Labor Day holiday approaches, the Oak Park Police Department will join law enforcement agencies throughout the state in cracking down on impaired, unbuckled and distracted drivers.

The high-visibility mobilization effort will run now through the early morning hours of Sept. 7.

“We need our community to understand that it’s up to each of us to make the smart decision to drive sober on Labor Day and every day,” said Police Chief LaDon Reynolds. “Motorists in Oak Park should expect stepped-up impaired driving patrols and seat-belt enforcement, particularly at night when seat-belt usage rates are at their lowest.”

Oak Park Police are partnering with the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement across Illinois for the increased statewide effort.

This Labor Day weekend remember to designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family drive drunk or impaired by drugs. Even a small amount of alcohol or other drug can impair judgment and reaction times, making driving unsafe.

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The crackdown runs concurrently with a media campaign reminding motorists that impaired driving has “Life or Death” consequences.
