March 30, 2015 – Two juveniles sustained non-life-threatening injuries when they were struck by a car at about 12:30 p.m., Sun., while crossing Jackson Boulevard near Wesley Avenue after attending services at a nearby church.
The pair, one 11 years old from Chicago, the other 12 years old from Justice, apparently stepped into the street from behind a parked car on the south side of Jackson and were struck by an eastbound 2001 Nissan Maxima driven by Dana Y. Coleman, 31, of 1000 block N. Lawndale Ave.
Coleman, who was on the scene when police arrived, told officers she was unable to avoid the juveniles who she said ran into the street.
She was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, operating a motor vehicle without proof of insurance and driving while her license was suspended. Coleman was released after posting a $200 cash bond and is scheduled to appear on April 20 at the 4th District Circuit Court in Maybrook.
The 11-year-old victim was transported to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park where she was treated and released. The 12-year old was transported to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood where she was admitted for observation.
