COVID-19 vaccine booster shots now available

Sept. 27, 2021 - The Oak Park Department of Public Health is planning to offer COVID-19 vaccines, including Pfizer vaccine booster shots for those who are eligible and first doses to anyone age 12 and older, at two mobile vaccination events this week.

The Health Department's mobile response van will be operating from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at the Main Fire Station at 100 N. Euclid Ave. and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 2 on Marion Street between Lake Street and North Boulevard during Downtown Oak Park's See You Saturday event. 

Health officials strongly encourage registering ahead of time to speed up the process. Registration links will be posted at www.oak-park.us/vaccine

Anyone receiving a booster shot will need to bring their vaccine card.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now recommending that people age 65 and older, residents in long-term care settings and people age 50 to 64 with underlying medical conditions get a booster shot of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at least six months after completing their initial Pfizer vaccination series.

Booster shots also have been authorized for people ages 18 to 49 with underlying medical conditions and individuals who work in high-risk settings at least six months after completing their initial Pfizer vaccination series.

The Oak Park Health Department is also providing a third dose of COVID-19 vaccines to residents with compromised immune systems.

Residents with compromised immune systems may email covid19vaccine@oak-park.us so health officials can assist in setting up an appointment.
