May 27, 2017 - Oak Park Police are investigating a shooting that left a Chicago juvenile dead following what appears to have been an attempted robbery at about 11:15 a.m. today in the parking lot of a bank near Madison Street and Austin Boulevard.
The deceased 16-year-old juvenile, whose identity has not been released, allegedly attempted to rob a 24-year-old Chicago man who was legally armed.
The pair apparently exchanged gunfire before the alleged robber reportedly entered a waiting car and fled into Chicago.
An off-duty Chicago Police Officer who was nearby detained the attempted robbery victim who is being questioned by Oak Park Police investigators.
Police say the man has a valid Illinois conceal-carry permit.
While many details remain to be determined, Police say the juvenile was transported to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead.
