April 1, 2018 – A fire in a condominium in the 300 block of Wisconsin Avenue claimed the life of a man inside the unit.
Oak Park firefighter/paramedics responded to a call at 9:23 a.m. today to find heavy smoke coming from a second floor unit.
The fire was quickly extinguished, but the body of a man was found on the floor in the bathroom of the condo unit. Resuscitation efforts were initiated, but were unsuccessful.
No other injuries were reported, most likely because of working smoke detectors, fire officials said.
The man has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.
All 10 of the units in the building were impacted by the smoke from the fire and the water used to extinguish it.
Cause of the fire has not been determined. The Office of the State Fire Marshal is involved in the investigation.
Support was provided by unites from the Cicero, Forest Park and Stickney fire departments.
