Jan. 24, 2018 – A neighbor’s quick decision to call 911 led to the arrest of two suspects within minutes of an attempt to hijack a car at about 8 p.m., last night in the 1100 South Grove Avenue.
The intended victim told Police she was in the driver’s seat of her locked vehicle parked inside the garage with the overhead door open when a man knocked on her window while pulling on the door handle and ordering her from the car. She said a second man also was yelling for her to get of the car.
The driver told Police she began honking the car horn and the men fled from the garage. A neighbor saw both suspects exiting the garage, immediately called 911 and provided detailed descriptions.
About 20 minutes after the incident was reported, a patrol officer stopped two men fitting the descriptions of the suspects on foot in the 800 block of South Oak Park Avenue. The suspects, both from Chicago and one a juvenile, were arrested and positively identified by the witness and the victim.
No injuries were reported.
