Suspected drug ring busted at rented house

Feb. 16, 2015 - A West Suburban Enhanced Drug and Gang Enforcement Task Force (WEDGE) narcotics investigation that began in Riverside in early January culminated in three arrests in a house in the second 1100 block of South Euclid Avenue early Friday morning.

Oak Park Police tactical and patrol officers assisted Riverside Police in executing a search warrant at the rented house where they found cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and tools for processing, preparing and cutting narcotics for resale.

Arrested were Edward P. Creedon, 32, the lease holder of the Oak Park house; Matthew A. Cooley, 35, of the 3000 block of West Lyndale Street in Chicago; and Danielle A. Dipego, 30, of the 700 block of North Linden Avenue in Oak Park.

Creedon was charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine (Class X felony); possession with intent to deliver cocaine (Class 1 felony); possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine (Class 1 felony); possession of a controlled substance, cocaine (Class 4 felony); possession of drug paraphernalia (misdemeanor); and unlawful use of weapon for having two sets of mental knuckles (misdemeanor).

Cooley was charged with felony possession of cocaine and Dipego was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

No methamphetamine was being produced at the Euclid address, according to WEDGE officials who allege that Creedon was purchasing the methamphetamine from a source outside of Oak Park, but consuming and selling at this address.

The source of the methamphetamine production remains under investigation.

The Forest Park Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Forest Park K-9 officer and his dog supported the execution of the search warrant.

Calling the arrest significant, Riverside Police Chief and WEDGE Chairperson Thomas Weitzel said the offenders were selling cannabis, cocaine and meth to other residents of the west suburban area.

He said police observed numerous drug transactions in which the customer would drive to the home and purchase narcotics at the front door or by going inside the home and then quickly leave.

WEDGE is a regional task force of west suburban cook County police agencies representing a population of more than 250,000 residents since its first operation in 2008.

"We are committed to community-based, problem-oriented and data-driven policing," said Oak Park Police Chief Rick Tanksley. "But much of today's crime knows no jurisdictional borders, which is why the WEDGE Gang and Drug Task Force is so important to suppressing gang and drug activity not only in our community, but throughout the western suburbs."
