Dec. 9, 2014 - A law enforcement veteran with nearly four decades of experience has been named the Oak Park Police Department’s newest Deputy Chief.
Frank Limon joins Anthony Ambrose, who rose through the ranks of the Oak Park Police Department to become Deputy Chief in 2005.
“We are fortunate to have an individual with Frank’s extensive experience and background joining the department’s command staff,” said Oak Park Police Chief Rick C. Tanksley. “His wide range of law enforcement and police management experience will give the department the command depth to mentor the young officers who are the future of the Oak Park Police Department.”
Calling him an ideal match for Oak Park’s community policing approach, Tanksley said Limon stood out among a strong list of candidates vetted through an extensive national search process that attracted more than 60 applicants.
“Frank’s knowledge of evidenced-based policing and best practices, a demonstrated commitment to the philosophy of community policing and a desire to strategically develop the leadership potential in all officers made him stand out among the candidates in the review process,” Tanksley said.
Limon, 60, is a retired veteran of the Chicago Police Department where during his 37-year career he steadily rose through the ranks to assume a number of command positions including Assistant Deputy Superintendent of Operations, Deputy Chief of Patrol, Assistant Deputy Superintendent of Administration and Chief of the Organized Crime Division.
After retiring from the Chicago Police Department, Limon served as chief of the River Forest Police Department for about 18 months before being recruited to lead Connecticut’s New Haven Police Department. Prior to accepting the deputy chief position in Oak Park he was Director of Security for the City Colleges of Chicago.
Limon holds a Master of Arts degree in public administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. In addition, he has had extensive training in a wide range of law enforcement specialties and is a member of a number of professional law enforcement organizations.
A swearing-in ceremony will be scheduled.
