The Village marked the 50th anniversary of Earth Day by announcing that Oak Park is launching Illinois’ first residential community solar pilot program.
The community solar pilot program is being offered exclusively to Oak Park residents currently enrolled in the Village’s electricity aggregation program.
Participants in the new pilot program will receive 20 percent guaranteed savings through net metering credits while supporting the development of renewable energy resources in Illinois.

“We are excited to participate in the community solar pilot program to provide the residents of Oak Park with a unique opportunity to support renewable energy resources as subscribers to the project,” Village Sustainability Manager Mindy Agnew said. “Community solar projects provide an excellent alternative for our residents that want to support solar resources and receive a share of the solar generation via net metering credits.”
The pilot program is being offered through Oak Park’s electricity aggregation provider, Chicago based MC Squared Energy Services, LLC (MC2), a leading retail electricity supply company focused on offering valued-added renewable energy products and services.
“I congratulate the Village of Oak Park and its staff for their continued commitment to sustainability and collaboration with MC-Squared to develop Illinois’ first functioning residential community solar program,” said Chuck Sutton, President of MC-Squared Energy Services. “We believe that this program can serve as a model for how municipalities can support renewable development and secure cost savings for residents during these challenging times.”
The Village is designated a gold community in the SolSmart program funded by the U.S. Department of Energy SunShot Initiative. This program helps local governments reduce barriers to solar energy growth and makes it easier for homes and businesses to go solar.
